Canada’s selection as the host nation for these events is fitting as our banking system has earned worldwide praise for stability while other nations struggled to keep their financial footing beneath them.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan Honored by Jump$tart with 2010 Federal Leadership Award
The Jump$tart Coalition presented two "Federal Leadership Awards" at its 2010 Annual Awards Dinner in April. United States Secretary of Education Arne Duncan was honored for one, while Sheila C. Bair, FDIC Chairman received the other. The award recognizes current members of either the U.S. Congress or Federal Government who have demonstrated support for financial education and youth financial literacy. Secretary Duncan was recognized for being a vocal and devoted advocate of the need to educate our children about money.

Financial Football

Financial FootballVisa and States Team-Up for Financial Literacy

Visa has partnered with over 20 states to deliver Financial Football to high schools and public libraries in its on-going effort to promote financial literacy.

Financial Football is a fast-paced quiz game in which students answer money management questions to score touchdowns. The program also includes lesson plans that can be used prior to team-play in the classroom.

In addition to an event next Saturday at the Wide World of Indoor Sports, they are encouraging people to play Visa’s Financial Soccer Game online.

A computer game designed to help educate high school students about personal finance was introduced in South Carolina on Friday. State Treasurer Converse Chellis and Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams unveiled the Financial Football game at a Columbia area high school.
